Disable extraneous Network Interface Cards (NICs)

One of the most common changes required for the Network Interface Card (NIC) is to ensure that Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Monitor ignores any extraneous NICs (such as an onboard NIC that is not being used and which you do not want showing up in the Network Management Console [NMC]).

To disable an extraneous NIC

  1. On the desktop, double-click the Windows PowerShell for DNA shortcut.

    Windows PowerShell for DNA opens.

  2. To execute the Config WMI Monitor, execute the following commands:

    set-silo Common

    ConfigWMIMonitor

The OASyS DNA WMI Monitor Wizard opens.

  3. Select Next.

    The Select Action page appears.

  4. Select Edit existing configuration, and then select Next.

The Select the Namespace/Class to monitored page appears.

  5. Select the desired namespace and class, and then select Next until you reach the Revise Query page.

  6. Select Retrieve sample data using the Basic Query.

The FilterResults dialog box appears showing the list of device adapters.

  7. From the DeviceID column, identify the desired adapters (for example, "0000" and "0008").

  8. Select Cancel to return to the Revise Query page.

  9. In the Where Clause field, construct an appropriate condition, such as the following example:

    DeviceID <> "0000" and DeviceID <> "0008"

In this example, the NICs that are identified as "0000" and "0008" will no longer be monitored by the WMI Monitor.

Note: Using this DeviceID field within the Where Clause field may not work for every NIC. If the vendor's WMI driver does not differentiate NICs by DeviceID, you may need to find a different field to use within the Where Clause field to enable/disable monitoring of the desired NICs.
