Use the flexTagType Row Edit dialog box to configure the priority and restrictions associated with this tag. You can also select an image file to use as an icon for each tag type.

Refer to the table below for field descriptions and instructions on how to configure the editable fields using the flexTagType Row Edit dialog box.

Items on the flexTagType Row Edit Dialog Box

Items

Description

Name

Select the name of the FlexTagType record from the Select dialog box.

Description

Enter a description in the field as you want it to appear in the Description column of the FlexTagType Table Edit dialog box.

Priority

Select the priority value of a tag.

The priority of a tag will affect where it appears in the FlexTag Summary window in easy eXtended Operator Station (ezXOS). Tags of a higher priority appear first.

Within a priority, newer tags are displayed higher than older tags.

The highest tag in the Summary does not directly correlate to the icon displayed on the point.

The following Command Inhibitive tag types are equal in terms of tag icon precedence:

  • No cmd

  • No operator cmds

  • No program cmds

For points that do not have a maintenance tag, their tag icon precedence is first determined by tag type, then priority, then time (newer tags first):

  1. Command In Progress tag

  2. Command Inhibitive tags

  3. Warning tags

  4. Informational tags

When the system is deciding which icon to apply to a tag, a lower-priority Warning Tag, for example, will have precedence over a higher-priority Informational Tag.

    Priority of Maintenance Tags

It is important to remember that tags with the Maintenance restriction change the behavior of tags that have an equal or lower priority. A No commands tag that is of higher priority than a Maintenance tag will continue to behave like a No commands tag. However, a No commands tag that is of lower priority than a Maintenance tag will behave as though it is a Warning tag. This allows maintenance work testing to occur without the need to remove tags. You can temporarily apply a Maintenance tag, and then send a command to the record to test the functionality of the device.

Because of this change in behaviour, the rules for determining the icon displayed are also altered when maintenance tags are introduced. The hierarchy of checking non-maintenance tags is still followed, but with maintenance tags the priority has a greater influence on the icon:

  • Command In Progress tags still always take precedence over any other tag.

  • A higher-priority Maintenance tag will take precedence over the other tag types.

  • Equal-priority Maintenance tags take precedence over Command Inhibitive tags.

  • Equal-priority Maintenance and Warning tags will be determined by the time at which the tag was placed on the point (tags most recently placed take priority).

  • Informational tags are still of the lowest precedent.

Restriction

Select a restriction for the tag. The Restriction field determines the behavior of the tag. The choices are:

  • Undefined. A tag with this tag type assumes no pre-programmed behavior when attached to a record.

  • No cmd. Neither the Controller nor the application program can issue any control commands to the record.

  • No operator cmds. Controllers will not be able to issue any control commands to a record with this tag type, but the application program can.

  • No program cmds. The Controller can issue commands to the record associated with this tag type, but the application program cannot.

  • Warning. A tag of this type will generate a warning message when prompted. When a warning message appears, the system presents the Controller an opportunity to cancel the command that prompted it. The warning message contains the name of the flexTagType record, along with the name of the tagged record and its associated table.

  • Informational. Tags of this type will generate informational messages. The message contains the name of the flexTagType record, along with the name of the tagged record and its associated table.

  • Maintenance. Maintenance tags make lower and equal priority prohibitive tags (such as No Commands) behave like warning tags. Warning tags will allow the Controller to perform an action, but will generate a warning message beforehand.

Tag Icon

Select (...) to open the Icon Selector dialog box and select an image file to be used as the icon for the tag.

Note: Configuring the tag icon is optional. If you don’t configure a tag icon, the default icon will be used. The image for the default icon is determined by the tag type.
