Microsoft SQL Engine event logging

Note: For information on overriding default configuration settings, see Modify configuration settings.

The RealTime DataStore component module of the Microsoft SQL Engine provides automatic event logging whenever Microsoft SQL statements are executed to modify the contents of RealTime records. By default, one event message is generated for each modified field: the message includes the name of the field being changed, the previous value of the field and the new value.

When the Microsoft SQL being executed affects multiple records, this event logging can quickly add up to hundreds or even thousands of messages. It is possible to configure the RealTime DataStore for the Microsoft SQL Engine to log fewer event messages when RealTime records are updated.

To configure an application to log the Microsoft SQL text, instead of the individually modified fields

  1. In the %DNADataRoot%\RealTime\config\Settings directory on the RealTime server(s), either create or open the RealTime_logging.json file.

    The following example shows how to configure this file so that the Advanced Database Editor (ADE) application will log Microsoft SQL statements only. Replace ADE with the name of the application:

    {

    "RealTime": {

    "ApplicationsWhichLogSummarizedSQLEventsOnly": "ADE"

    }

    }

  2. Save the file.

  3. Shut down and restart the RealTime Service for the setting to take effect.
