Regular expression (RegEx) attributes

Regular expressions (RegEx) allow for the definition of rules used in checking entered values.

Note: All attributes are required unless indicated as optional.

The RegEx attributes are as follows:

  • Name is the name of the RegEx. The name is case-sensitive and must be unique. If there are multiple RegEx with the same name, the one from %DNAInstallRoot% takes precedence. If there is an ALTER version of the file in %DNADataRoot%, the changes in the ALTER file override the settings in the original file. The system ignores all other RegEx files with the same name.

For example, the StatusInputBit RegEx in the ADERegex.xml file defines the Expression as [012]?. The StatusInputBit RegEx in the ADERegex.Alter.xml file defines the Expression as [345]?. Another file, ADERegex_ABC.xml, has a StatusInputBit Regex that defines the Expression as [789]?. When an Administrator opens the dialog box and types 7 in the associated field, the system generates an error saying that the acceptable values are 3, 4, and 5.

Note: StatusInputBit is not the same as StatusInputBIT because, in the latter, BIT is upper-case.

    Important:

    • Name must be unique among all the XML files.

    • Name is case-sensitive.

  • Expression defines the checking to perform on the entered values. This uses the RegEx as defined by Microsoft.

  • Description is the message displayed when the entered value does not adhere to the rules defined in the Expression attribute. A triangular icon with an exclamation mark appears next to the value. Hovering the mouse pointer over the triangle displays the text (tooltip) contained in the RegEx's Description attribute.
