IntelliSense

IntelliSense is Microsoft’s version of autocomplete, which allows a Code Editor to display a list of methods and attributes for a class whenever it is followed by a period.

IntelliSense provides both autocomplete and documentation when working within a code editor. Within AVEVA Enterprise SCADA, IntelliSense functionality exists for the eXtended Editor (XE) Visual Basic (VB) Code View and for the Application Calculation Engine (ACE) Code Editor.

To use IntelliSense

  1. Enter the first couple of characters of a type or variable name and press Ctrl+Spacebar to see a list of potential names.

  2. To see a list of valid methods and members, press period.

If you continue typing characters, the list is filtered to include only the members that begin with those characters. A tooltip provides a short description of the member.

  3. After selecting an item, you can insert it into the code through one of the following methods:

    • Press Tab.

    • Press Spacebar.

Enabling IntelliSense for Classes that exist within an Assembly not provided by Microsoft

  • Copy the assembly of interest to the following directory: %DNADataRoot%\ADE\bin directory.

For example, in order for an ACE Developer computer to see IntelliSense help for the classes within OASySDNA.RealTime.HighPerformanceDB, the OASySDNA.RealTime.HighPerformanceDB.dll file must be copied from a RealTime server’s %DNAInstallRoot%\RealTime\bin directory into the %DNADataRoot%\ADE\bin directory.

For more information on external assemblies, refer to Assemblies.

Note: Intellisense is not supported in Simple View mode (refer to Use Simple/Complex Code View).
