Use Export all child nodes to XML to export the current contents of a folder node and all its child nodes into an XML data file.

About this task

This item is used from a System Folder node to backup a system's configuration. The Config folder's context menu item Backup Configuration performs the same functionality in order to save all configuration information. Follow the procedure below to export all child notes to an XML data file.

To export all child nodes to XML

  1. Select Export all child nodes to XML in the left pane of the Network Management Console (NMC) context menu.

  2. Select the directory and enter the file name for the XML file.

  3. Select Save.

Results

The exported XML file can be viewed using a text editor or XML editor. The resulting XML file should not be edited using Microsoft Excel, since Excel cannot save the resulting data as an XML file. An XML element is used to define each system configuration object. The element ADLDSObject represents a complete object. Each element will contain attributes and sub-elements in order to fully define the object.
