Define the dataset

Once you have created an empty report for your project, you need to define the data source for the query.

To define the data source

1. In Microsoft Visual Studio, navigate to the Report Data pane > Dataset.

2. Right-click on Dataset and select Add Dataset.

   The Dataset Properties dialog box appears.

   

3. In the Dataset Properties dialog box:

   1. In the Name field, enter the name of your dataset.

   2. Select Use a dataset embedded in my report.

   Extra field options will appear in the dialog box.

   

4. In the Dataset Properties dialog box:

   1. In the Query field, enter in the criteria for your query.

   2. Select OK.
