Understanding On Call

Important: The On Call application relies on data configured through the Email Alarm Notification application to carry out its tasks. Before following the procedures below, complete the procedures outlined in Email Alarm Notification.

The configuration procedure for On Call is as follows:

  1. Create Alert User and Alert Group records (refer to Email Alarm Notification).

  2. Assign the Alert Group records to various analog, status, rate, and multistate points (refer to Email Alarm Notification).

  3. Create station records (refer to Station Monitoring).

  4. Assign the station records to various analog, status, rate, and multistate points (refer to Station Monitoring).

  5. Create EmailSysAlmCfg records (refer to Create an EmailSysAlmCfg record).

  6. Configure the standard appearance of the message sent when specific alarm conditions occur (refer to Configure the email template).

Relationship between On Call and Email Alarm Notification

In the On Call application, one can create contacts and associate them with either certain stations or all stations in the system. When any point at a station enters an alarm condition, all on-call contacts associated with the station receive either an email, or, if using a customer-supplied email to an SMS gateway, a text message.

The Email Alarm Notification application allows you to create email notification recipients, and add them to email notification distribution lists (alertGroups). These alertGroups are then associated with selected telemetered points. When one of these telemetered points enters an alarm state configured for email alarm notification, all recipients belonging to the alertGroup receive the alarm.

Note: The default configuration settings for both applications are located in the RealTime silo's Email_Configuration.json file.
