Create a custom Data Source Name (DSN)

By default, several system Data Source Names (DSNs) are defined for connecting to a database through Interactive SQL (ISQL). You can configure your own custom DSN if you want to connect with several custom properties set by default.

Note: Any DSN set up by configuring the system via the Config Tool (for example localRTDB or mainRTDB) should never be modified. Instead, create a custom DSN that is a copy of the original DSN.

To create and configure a custom DSN for use with the Microsoft SQL Engine

  1. Select the Start menu, and enter ODBC to quickly launch the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Source Administrator.

Note: This is a Windows Administrative Tool and is available in 32-bit and 64-bit.

  2. If you want to create a DSN based on an existing definition, select Configure to review the settings of the DSN you want to copy. Select Cancel to return to the System DSN tab.

  3. Select Add.

The Create New Data Source dialog box appears.

  4. Select DataDirect OpenAccess SDK, and select Finish.

The DataDirect OpenAccess SDK ODBC Driver Setup configuration window appears.

  5. Configure the General DSN settings:

    1. Enter a name for the data source in the Data Source Name field.

    2. Optional: Enter a description for the data source in the Description field.

    3. Enter the name of the computer where the Microsoft SQL Engine is running in the Service Host field. This can be localhost if the Microsoft SQL Engine is running locally or on a myOASyS system.

    4. Enter the service port that corresponds to the Microsoft SQL Engine you want to connect to in the Service Port field.

    5. Specify the Service Data Source:

      • Enter SQLEngine_NTLM for a myOASyS or Station OASyS system.

      • Enter SQLEngine_Kerberos for an Enterprise system.

    6. Optional: Set any custom properties for the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection string in the Custom Properties field. You can separate multiple custom properties with semicolons.

    7. Select Test Connect to test the connection.

    8. Select OK.
