Configure data quality

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025

You can configure a quality bit number in any analog or rate point, with 0 indicating no quality bit checking, and 1โ€“15 indicating the specific quality bit.

When a Controller polls from the Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), the quality bit will be verified using the following configuration settings:

  • IS_ZERO_GOOD_QUALITY

  • USE_LAST_GOOD_VALUE_ON_BAD_DQ

Notes: The above settings apply to those analog or rate points whose corresponding RealTime database (RTDB) records make use of the Quality Bit field on the Input tab of their respective Row Edit dialog boxes. Because some protocols (for example, Open Platform Communications (OPC), Bristol Standard Asynchronous Protocol, and Distributed Network Protocol (DNP3)) have built-in data quality features for their analog or rate points, you should not make use of the Quality Bit field on analog or rate points for those protocols. Otherwise, the values and data quality for those analog or rate points may not be as expected.

For more information regarding data quality configuration settings, refer to the RealTime Developer documentation.

To configure data quality

  1. Open the Advanced Database Editor (ADE).

  2. Expand the ADE tree view to locate the analog or rate record.

  3. Double-click the analog or rate record.

The analog or rate Row Edit dialog box opens.

  4. Select the Input tab.

Note: The analog record has a single input: Control, while the rate record has two inputs: Pulse and Analog.

  5. In the Input Type field, select (...).

    The ogxTypes dialog box appears.

  6. Select unsign 16 int from the list.

Note: The Quality Bit field will only be enabled if the Input Type is set to unsign 16 int.

  7. Configure the Quality Bit field for any records by selecting a value (0-15) from the dropdown menu.

Note: If the Quality Bit is set to 0, it is not used.

  8. Select Save.

The next time data is polled from the RTU and krunched into an analog or rate record, one of two things will happen:

    • If the quality bit polled from the RTU is good, the record will not be stale.

    • If the quality bit polled from the RTU is bad, the record will be stale.
