Connection configuration

Define a connection used to communicate with the remote.

Provided that the physical data link supports the multi-drop topology, you can configure one or more remotes to share the same connection record. For further information on the connection table, refer to volume 1 of the RealTime Administrator documentation.

To configure a connection

  1. Navigate to the Main tab in the connection Row Edit dialog box.

  2. In the Protocol field, select AB DF1.

  3. Navigate to the Allen-Bradley tab in the connection Row Edit dialog box.

    Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

  4. In the Wait time for ACK/NAK (ms) field, enter the maximum time (in milliseconds) to wait for a reply to a query.

  5. In the Duplex Setting field, select the DF1 protocol driver session layer operation mode:

    • Full Duplex โ€“ Full Duplex mode uses separate transmit and receive lines.

    • Half Duplex โ€“ Half Duplex mode does not use separate transmit and receive lines. As a result, all data from the remote has to be requested, as opposed to sending it itself.

  6. In the Error checking method field, select the driver error detection algorithm used by the Remote Terminal Unit (RTU). Select either Block Check Character checksum (BCC) or Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC).

Notes: The CRC algorithm is better at detecting errors, and is recommended for new installations.

The error detection algorithm must be the same for all RTUs on the same communication channel.

  7. In the Address of gateway field, enter the address of the gateway used for communication.

  8. In the Gateway Type field, select the type of gateway use to connect with the remote:

    • No Gateway

    • 1785-KE

    • 1770-KF2

  9. In the Host Address field, enter the station address for the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA host.
