Rate points with pulse input

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 2 minute read

Perform this procedure to associate a rate point (pulse input) with a processing deadband. This procedure assumes that the Source of Data field on the Main tab in the rate Row Edit dialog box is set to Pulse input.

To associate a rate point (pulse input) with a processing deadband

  1. Navigate to the Input tab in the rate Row Edit dialog box.

  2. (Optional) In the Time between rate calculations (sec) field, enter the minimum length of time (in seconds) that should elapse between rate calculations.

The lower the rate, the greater this time should be in order to increase rate calculation accuracy.

Note: If you configure the Time between rate calculations (sec) field in addition to the Processing Deadband field, the system processes a new value when either:

    • The absolute difference between the polled rate value and the previously processed rate value exceeds the Processing Deadband.

      OR

    • The Time between rate calculations (sec) has expired.

  3. Select Processing Deadband Enable.

  4. In the Processing Deadband field, enter the processing deadband that the system uses to determine whether or not it should process a new value.

Example

Assume the following for point "0rate":

  • Time between rate calculations (sec) = 120

  • Processing Deadband Enable is selected

  • Processing Deadband = 49

  • Current value of point = 10

  • The following occurs:

    1. The point's value holds steady for more than two minutes.

    2. At 10:45:00 AM, the system detects a polled rate value of 30.

Even though |30 - 10| <= 49, the system processes the value because the time between rate calculations has been exceeded.

    3. At 10:45:15 AM, the system detects a polled rate value of 80.

      The system processes the value since |80 - 30| > 49.

    4. At 10:45:35 AM, the system detects a polled rate value of 20.

      The system processes the value since |20 - 80| > 49.

    5. At 10:45:40 AM, the system detects a polled rate value of 30.

The system does not process the value immediately, because |30 – 20 | <= 49. However, the system does process the value at 10:47:00 AM.
