User Defined Element Types (UDET's)

Design Reuse pay attention to sub-typing through UDET's. For example, it is possible to define separate specifications for UDET's in the Item Settings file and thereby considered by PML rename functions.

User Defined Attributes (UDA's)

UDA's for items transferred by Design Reuse are taken care of in the transfer process. For Hull items it is possible to configure in the Item Settings if the attributes should be considered or not.

Distributed Attributes

Attributes applied to model objects through the concept of Distributed Attributes are taken care of in the transfer process. It is configured in the Item Settings if the attributes should be considered or not. The definitions of the Distributed Attributes stored in the dictionary database are not transferred by Design Reuse but must be setup in beforehand by the Lexicon module in the target project.

Link Documents

Documents or other resources, either external or internal, can be linked to a database element through Link Descriptors. Link Descriptors are handled and copied by Design Reuse. The functionality to get referred elements at export provides model objects, drawings and other internal database elements connected to Link Descriptors then possible to include in export. Established Link Descriptor references to model objects in target project are maintained when model objects are copied and replaced.

Topology Dependencies

Due to dependencies between Transfer Items several iterations might be necessary at import to accomplish a successful generation of a set of model objects. At import Design Reuse takes care of this model regeneration of model data and interrupts when all model objects are complete or when no more dependencies can be resolved for successful model generation.

Status

Status control data applied to the design model of a certain project is ignored by Design Reuse (at export) as it is intimately associated with exactly that project. Status definitions applied to model objects in target project are maintained and kept when model objects are copied and replaced by Design Reuse.

Resolve References

Assemblies, Status and Linked Documents hold essential information through references to other parts of the new design model. For changes in the design model in target project, through an import operation, a special follow up mechanism is ensuring that references for existing assemblies, status and linked documents are maintained and changed to point to the new replaced design model elements. This mechanism is possible to switch off by an option in Item Settings File.
