Create Cable

  1. To create a cable element, select Create > Cable from the main menu bar to display the Create Cable window:

  2. From the Element Naming part of the Create Cable window you can input a unique Name.

    Note: The Cable Name can be populated by selecting the Autonaming icon to the right of the Name field.

  3. A cable can be assigned to a system by selecting from the Primary System dropdown menu.

  4. Use Basic Data area of the Create Cable window allows you to input the general attributes for the new cable element.

    After inputting the general attributes for the new cable element, you can choose to automatically check the fill level.

  5. In the Fill Check dropdown menu, select from either On or Off (the default is Off).

    The Excess Lengths fields specifies head and tail excesses which are used when the cable cutting lengths are calculated.

    Note: The Excess Lengths(mm) must be entered in this order.

    Enter the Head excess length, Head extra excess length, Tail excess length, and Tail extra excess length.

    The Proximity Distance specifies the distance from the head, the software will start searching for cableway entry points.

    Routing Status

    Identifies the current status of the cable. The default status is 0 (Un-routed), other statuses are 1 (Routed), 2 (Routing Failed), 3 (Partially Routed), 4 (Partially failed), 5 (Manually Routed).

    Cable Length

    Displays the total length of the routed cable including excess lengths (the default value is 0).

    Cable Free Length

    Displays the length of cable being routed outside of cableway branches, including the head and tail excess lengths. The default value is 0 and the Start and End of the cable free length is 0 by default.

Specification

  • The Specification area of the Create Cable window allows you to select a cable. Select Choose Cable to display the Choose Table window. See Choose Cable.

    Note: If a cable specification is not chosen, it will lead to inaccurate cable tray fill level calculations when the routing the cable. When Create Cable is selected, the following warning will appear.

Start

  1. Using the Start area of the Create Cable window, choose a Start Ref (starting point) in the 3D view or a piece of equipment for the cable to start at.

    1. If a reference is known, you can enter the reference location in the Reference field.

  2. If Pick is selected, you are prompted to Identify Equi/Valve/Pcom/Elconn for Start Ref: in the 3D view. the Reference field is automatically populated with the reference.

  3. If List Equipment is selected, the List of Equipments window is displayed. You can choose a piece of equipment from the List Equipment for Selection part of the window.

    1. Select Apply to choose the piece of equipment and close the List of Equipments window.

    2. Select Cancel to discard any inputs and close the List of Equipments window.

    End

    1. Using the End part of the Create Cable window, choose a End Ref (finishing point) in the 3D view or a piece of equipment for the cable to end at.

      1. If a reference is known, you can enter the reference location in the Reference field.

    2. If Pick is selected, you are prompted to Identify Equi/Valve/Pcom/Elconn for Start Ref: in the 3D view. the Reference field is automatically populated with the reference.

    3. If List Equipment is selected, the List of Equipments window is displayed. You can choose a piece of equipment from the List Equipment for Selection part of the window.

      1. Select Apply to choose the piece of equipment and close the List of Equipments window.

      2. Select Cancel to discard any inputs and close the List of Equipments window.

      Tasks

      • You can now create a cable. To do so, from the Tasks area of the Choose Cable window, select Create Cable. A cable element is created and displayed in the design hierarchy and the Modify Cable window is displayed. For more information on the Modify Cable window, see Modify Cable.

        Note: The cable will not initially be shown in the 3D view. Once it has been routed, the cable is displayed.
