Preliminary Weight Analysis - Weight Analysis

  • Last UpdatedDec 18, 2025

A weight analysis can be performed entirely by using the command syntax, although this

may be quite cumbersome.

To change the values for thickness, density and added weights of any element, use the

commands:

WEIGHT SET $W THICKNESS $N

WEIGHT SET $W DENSITY $N

WEIGHT SET $W STIFFENERS $N

WEIGHT SET $W BRACKETS $N

where $W is the name of the envelope or internal and $N is the new value.

To then perform the analysis, use the command

WEIGHT ANALYSE $N $N $N $N $N $N

where the six numbers are the lower x-value; upper x-value, lower y-value; upper y-value,

lower z-value and upper z-value respectively.

Note:
Only elements that are displayed are included in the analysis.

To view the report, simply type WEIGHT REPORT

Alternatively, use the following dialog:

Figure 3:17 Weight Analysis Dialog.

Enter the six values for the zone of interest and click on the Apply button. This will result in the surface areas of the elements being calculated.

Override any thickness, density, added weight for brackets, etc or added weight for

stiffeners values. You will see the element weight change and hence the total weight

and centre or gravity will be updated.

Note:
The actual element values are not updated until the OK button is clicked, and this is done by issuing the above commands for any elements that have changed.

Clicking OK also produces the report of the weight analysis.
