How to use AVEVA Initial Design Calc

  • Last UpdatedDec 18, 2025
  • 1 minute read

This section describes briefly how to use AVEVA Initial Design Calc. Only the mechanics of running the program are described here. Details of the individual calculations are described elsewhere. The operations of creating, modifying and running calculations, are mostly intuitive, once the basic procedure is understood.

Startup screen

When the program is first started, a dialog asks for your name. Each calculation that is created, modified, or calculated will be tagged with your name and the time the operation was performed.

User Interface

When the program is started for the first time, three windows (panes) will be displayed:

  • The left-hand pane is a tree view, which represents the contents of the Trim & Stability book.

  • The right-hand pane is a Report WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) view of the currently selected node of the tree.

  • The output log (or message) window is the window at the bottom, which informs you what the current status is within the project, including the status of any ongoing calculations.

Other windows that may be activated as required are:

  • An OpenGL 3D view, which shows the geometry and internal loading of the ship.

  • A Loading Diagram view, which can be used for interactive loading.

  • A script editing window for creating and running scripts (or macros) written in JavaScript or VBScript.

With the exception of the Report view, all windows and associated toolbars, can be relocated, docked, floated and turned off, or on, as required. The program will remember the state and position of the windows, together with that of the main program window, between sessions.
