The Insulation Definition form allows the user to define new insulation components.
Define Insulation Components
-
To open the Insulation Definition form select Utilities, then select Insulation from the main window pull-down.
-
When starting the Insulation Definition for the first time in a project, the insulation environment will be set up in the following way:
-
A new CATA element with purpose set to ICAT is created.
-
Two SECT elements are created, under the CATA element, the purpose will be set to INSM and INSC respectively.

The insulation component is built up by one or several insulation materials in layers and the insulation materials are defined by using material (SOLI) in the Property database. The availability of materials with densities in the Property database is a prerequisite for the insulation function.
-
Insulation Component
The window is divided in to four sections as shown below:

Insulation Component Groups
List of Insulation Component Group, placed under the SECT element with purpose set to INSC. When a group is selected in the list, its components are displayed in the Insulation Components section. The displayed components are filtered by the Purpose criteria.
The insulation Component Group (INSCMG) has the following attributes:
|
Description |
Name of the component group |
Insulation Components
List of insulation components, placed under an INSCMG. When a component is selected in the list, its layers are displayed in the Selected Layers section of the form.
The Insulation Component (INSCMP) has the following attributes:
|
FireRating |
Fire rating |
|
NoiseCat |
Noise category |
|
Thermal |
Thermal class |
|
PriceEst |
Price Estimation |
|
Description |
|
|
Thickness |
Pseudo attribute. Thickness of all layers on this component. |
|
Density |
Pseudo attribute. Calculated from all layers of this component. |
Materials/Fixings
List of available insulation materials and fixings, placed under the SECT element with purpose set to INSM. The insulation Material (INSMAT) element has the following attributes:
|
Description |
Name of the material. |
|
Maker |
Producer/brand |
|
Prodid |
Any product id |
|
Matref |
Material reference, mandatory field. Should point to SOLl element in the Property database. The SOLl element must have a density property set. |
The insulation Fixing Material (INSUF) element has the following attributes:
|
Description |
Name of the fixing |
|
Maker |
Producer/brand |
|
Prodid |
Any product id |
Selected Layers
List of layers and fixings associated with an Insulation Component, placed under the Insulation Component element (INSCMP). A layer is a reference to a Material/Fixing plus a thickness or consumption values.
-
To add a layer: Select Insulation Component, select Insulation Material, enter thickness in box and click Add.

-
To modify a layer thickness: Select Insulation component, select Insulation Layer, change the value in the thickness box, click Update.
-
To change the position of a layer or remove layer(s): Select Insulation component, right click on the Insulation Layer and choose from the popup menu.

The insulation Layer (INSLAY) has the following attributes:
|
InMtRf |
Reference to an Insulation Material (INSMAT) element. |
|
Thickn |
Thickness of the layer. |
|
ProcDesc |
Process description. |
The insulation Fixing (INCFIX) has the following attributes:
|
InMtRf |
Reference to an Insulation Material Fixing (INSUF) element. |
|
Thickn |
Consumption, number of fixings/ area unit. |
|
ProcDesc |
Process description. |
Set Up GPART Elements
All insulation component groups (INSCMG) must have a GPART element with the Insuref referring to the INSCMG.
The database is selected by setting it to CE and then a PRTWLD is created by selecting Create, then Part, then World. Refer to Create Part World Form for further information.
Similarly, to create a part family, use the tool found by selecting Create, then Part, then Family. Refer to Create Part Family Form for further information.
The GPART element can then be created from the Command window by typing new GPART and the attribute Insuref of the GPART to refer to the INSCMG element.
The reference of the INSCMG element can be found by making it CE and then execute q ref in the command window.
Create Selection Tables
In order to use the Insulation components, a selection table must be set up, by selecting Create, then selecting Specification World. Refer to Create Specification World Form for further information.
-
Create a Table Group. Select Create, then Selection Table, then Table Group.

-
The TABGRO element must have Purpose set to INSU.
A new window appears:

-
Click Add Heading.
-
Set Description to Insulation and Purpose to INSU.

-
In order to add elements (GPARTs) to the table, make the previously created Part Family CE. Select Add Items (From CE) in the window.
