Inclining Experiment Report

This feature enables you to create a formal report following an inclining experiment and associated collection of data and information. Inclining experiments are undertaken in order to determine the amount of GM that exists with the vessel in any particular loaded condition. Additionally the position of the center of gravity of the vessel can be determined, for example,, with the vessel in the lightship condition. These experimental results can be used provide confirmation of the results of design calculations and are part of the formal qualification requirements, both for a new vessel and for one that has undergone significant modifications.

The major activities involved in undertaking an inclining experiment are in collecting weight and other in-harbor data on the current condition of the vessel, moving small fixed weights through controlled athwartships distances and recording the corresponding movements of pendulums that measure the resulting inclinations of the vessel. This data, plus a record of the persons involved in undertaking and observing the experiment, constitute the bulk of the actual work. The inclining experiment report consists of a record of the data collected and the results of some very simple calculations.

In order to compile the report from an inclining experiment, you can select the Miscellaneous - Inclining Experiment icon and ensure that all collected input data is complete. Before the actual inclining experiment is undertaken you could elect to make copies of the Various Input dialogs in order to prepare data recording sheets for use during the actual experiment itself.
