Reference curves are created by right-clicking on a curve in the tree view and selecting the Make Reference sub menu. The user is then prompted to specify a name for the new reference curve. The reference curves are all located under the reference node in the tree view. They are displayed in the tree view with the same curve type icon as the curve they reference. Operations allowed on reference curves are; turning the Display state on and off, Delete and Copy.
A reference curve is drawn with a grey colour. If the reference curve and the original curve are drawn in the same view then the distance between the curve and its reference is displayed using colour coding on the reference curve. Two distance intervals can be defined and shown on the reference curve, the first in blue and the second in red.

When copying a reference curve the target is only the curve it has a reference to. By this operation the referenced curve can be restored to the same state as when the reference was made.
