Database Structure

Drawings are stored in PADD databases and hierarchically organized under Departments (DEPT) and Registries (REGI).

An example is shown in the picture below.

It is possible to control how different drawing types are organized into Departments and Registries. This is controlled by logical variables in the marine project setup file (d065-file). For example:

SB_PDB_PADD = General;MarDwg

means that general drawings are stored under DEPT = General, REGI = MarDwg.

SB_NPL_DGW_PADD = NestPlt;NplDwg

directs nesting sketches to be stored under DEPT = NestPlt, REGI = NplDwg.

Refer to User Guide Marine Drafting / Model Viewing and General Drafting / Concepts / Drawings.

Consideration should be given to the distribution of drawings across databases when initiating the project. Allocation of Departments and Registries can be made in separate PADD databases for different types of drawings for example, plate nesting sketches may be stored in a separate database to profile nesting sketches, or they may be grouped within one database below separate DEPT and REGI. It may be appropriate to have separate PADD databases for different SITEs, BLOCKs or ZONEs. The number of drawings held within a REGI may also be controlled to maximize performance.
