The AVEVA Global Server installation must be carried out by a System Administrator. Make sure to close any other applications that are running.

The AVEVA Global Server installs the Global Daemon and allows base product projects to manage Global operations. One Global Daemon process is required per location per project. Any machine that is required to run the Global Daemon needs to install the AVEVA Global Server.

It is possible to run the AVEVA Global Server installation from setup.exe (which will assume Administrator privilege), or from the Command Prompt window with Administrator privileges by running the following command:

Note: The following is an example of a silent install, the users installer location path maybe different to that of the example and the log file path can be changed. If the user runs the silent install without Administrator privileges the install will fail without an obvious reason.

  1. To install RPC, run the following command:

    msiexec /i "C:\Temp\Downloads\baseproduct\Global\Global12.14.msi" /lv "C:\Temp\Downloads\Global12.14.log" /qb- ADDLOCAL=RPC

  2. To install WCF, run the following command:

    msiexec /i "C:\Temp\Downloads\baseproduct\Global\Global12.14.msi" /lv "C:\Temp\Downloads\Global12.14.log" /qb ADDLOCAL=ALL GLOBALMANAGERSERVICEHOST=hostname GLOBALNOTIFICATIONSERVICEHOST=notifyname

The user will need to replace the following strings:

    hostname

The hostname of the computer that the AVEVA Global Manager Service will be installed on.

    notifyname

The notification service host name of the computer that the AVEVA Global Notification Service will be installed on.

    /qb-

Forces the install to be silent, by removing this option the installation process will be interactive.

The user can run the installation without the log file, but if the install fails it will be difficult to determine what went wrong.

If installing with silent install the user will not be prompted for any input. The installer will automatically go through the installation options as follows:

    The install will configure itself.

  3. Depending on privileges the User Access Control may ask the user to confirm to run the installation, click Yes.

    The installation will then run.

Once the installation has completed the installer window will close.

If installing without the -qb silent installation flag or from setup.exe, the user will need to do the following installation process accordingly.

  4. Insert the installation DVD into the DVD ROM drive.

If the autostart feature on the PC is working correctly, the browser will automatically load the correct file on the disc and display the Installation menu.

Note: The exact appearance of installation window and screens may be different depending on which browser is being using. The windows used in this manual are from Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.

  5. If the browser was not running, or the page failed to load, do one of the following:

    • Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the disc in DVD ROM drive and double-click on the file setup.exe.

    • Right-click and choose the browser from the Open With option on the popup menu.

Global is supplied on a DVD as part of a suite of applications.

  6. Click on AVEVA Global Server to display the Release Documents screen.

  7. To install the software, click Install.

A File Download window is displayed.

  8. On the File Download window click Run to install the software.

  9. Depending on the version of Microsoft Windows the following additional Security Warning may appear. If so, click Run.

After a short duration a Welcome to the AVEVA Global Server Setup Wizard window is displayed.

On this and subsequent screens a Cancel button is displayed. If Cancel is clicked at any stage a pop-up window will be displayed prompting for confirmation. If Yes is clicked partially installed files are removed and the installation process is stopped. If No is clicked the installation will continue.

  10. Click Next to display the End User License Agreement window.

  11. Select the I accept check box and click Next.

A default Location folder is recommended for the installation, which can be changed.

  12. Click Change to display the Change destination folder window.

The user can now navigate to an existing folder or create a new folder.

  13. Click OK to accept the destination folder and return to the Destination Folder window.

  14. Click Next to display the Collaboration Communications Options window.

The Global Daemon supports two communication layers:

    • Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)

    • Remote Communication Calls (RPC)

  15. The installation can only support one or the other. The user is required to select one or the other:

    • WCF Configuration

If the user selects Enable Global to utilize Windows Communications Foundation (WCF), the user has the option of defining the URL that allows base product to utilize the AVEVA Global Scheduler Service (scheduling) and AVEVA Global Notifications Service (messaging) in the base product. The URL must point to the same location as configured by the base product installation.

If the installed project is intended to use either the AVEVA Global Notifications Service (messaging) or the AVEVA Global Scheduler Service, AVEVA Global should be installed using silent install and setting the appropriate install properties, refer to .

If the AVEVA Global Manager Service URL has not yet been confirmed, the AVEVA Global Notifications Service (messaging) or the AVEVA Global Scheduler Service (scheduling) are not required immediately, it is possible to leave this field set to the default value. It is possible to change this string in the configuration file at a later date.

Note: Both the AVEVA Global Notifications Service (messaging) or the AVEVA Global Scheduler Service (scheduling) are only available for WCF configuration.

    • RPC Configuration

If the user selects Enable Global to utilize Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) both the AVEVA Global Notifications Service (messaging) and the AVEVA Global Scheduler Service (scheduling) will not be available, these features are compatible with WCF only.

Note: The communication mechanism selected must match the same selection in the base product Installation.

  16. Once the user has decided what communications layer it wants to install, click Next:

    WCF

    RPC

  17. Click Install to start the installation.

Once the files have been copied a final window is displayed confirming that the install process is complete.

  18. Click Finish to close the installation application.

Once the files have been copied onto the system, post configuration is required. For information regarding configuration of Global refer to and in that order.

If WCF has been selected, refer to the Configuration Guide for further information.
