Create Building Block

  • To create a building block, select Create > Building Block on the Building Block Tasks window to display the Create Building Block window.

    The Create Building Block window allows the user to set the main attributes, location and geometry of the Building Block, and create the corresponding Building Block (BBLOCK) element in the database.

Main Attributes of Building Block

Name

Enter an appropriate Name.

Description

Enter an appropriate Description.

Function

Enter an appropriate Function.

Area

Set the required Area using the spin box.

Location

Angle from Y axis

Set angle using the spin box.

Position

There are three menu options which allows the user to pick the position graphically.

  X

Enter the value of the X - coordinates. If required, select the checkbox to lock the position.

  Y

Enter the value of the Y - coordinates. If required, select the checkbox to lock the position.

  Z

Enter the value of the Z - coordinates. If required, select the checkbox to lock the position.

Offset

Clicking displays the Offset window which allows the user to enter offset values for the building block.

Click again to return to the explicit position text fields.

Geometry

Default height

Set the default height for the Building Block.

Define Building Block geometry

Displays the Define Building Block Boundary window.

Create Building Block

Creates a BBLOCK element in the database and displays the Modify Building Block window.

Back to Building Block tasks

Displays the Building Block Tasks window.

Define Building Block Boundary

The Define Building Block Boundary window allows the user to select a boundary shape, and set the dimensions and origin point for the boundary.

  1. Clicking Define Building Block geometry on the Create Building Block window displays the Define Building Block Boundary window.

    Shapes

    Allows the user to select a shape for the boundary from the drop-down list. The options available to the user are dependant on which shape is selected.

    Dimensions

    Enter values in the appropriate boxes.

    Origin

    Origin point

    Set using the spin box.

    Derive Methods

    Pick Corner Points

    Allows the user to graphically pick the corner points. The option varies depending on which shape is selected.

    Define Boundary

    Sets the boundary and displays the Create Building Block window.

    Return

    Returns the user to the Create Building Block window.

  2. Clicking Define Boundary returns the user back to the Create Building Block window, which updates to indicate that the geometry has been defined.

  3. Clicking Create Building Block creates the BBLOCK element in the database, commits the window settings to the database and displays the Modify Building Block window which allows the user to edit the position and attribute data.
