Rotating Dynamically

The orientation of the curves with respect to the oblique view window can be altered dynamically. Rotation occurs about a center that is located (in three dimensions) at the center of the parts of the curves that are currently visible in the oblique view window. The benefit of this is that regions of the design that are initially located near the center of the screen remain so during rotation.

Use the View Tool method

  1. Place the cursor on the rotate tool, and hold the Left Mouse button down, .

  2. Moving the mouse forwards and backwards rotates the model scene about an axis parallel to the screen horizontal.

  3. Moving the mouse left and right rotates the scene about an axis parallel to the vertical axis of the design.

Figure 3:29 Notional Rotation Axes

Use the Default method

  1. When the cursor is over an oblique view, the cursor becomes the icon. Hold the Left Mouse button down whilst moving the mouse forwards and backwards rotates the model scene about an axis parallel to the screen horizontal.

  2. Moving the mouse left and right rotates the scene about an axis parallel to the vertical axis of the design.

As with dynamic zooming and panning, the cursor disappears from the screen whilst rotating, and reappears once the Left Mouse button is released.

Unlike zooming and panning there is no alternative rotating method that is invoked from a menu or the toolbar.
