Modifying the Tangent Curve

When waterlines are updated, the point at which each waterline tanges into the ending is calculated and these points are used to generate the stem or stern tangent curve, if it did not already exist. This curve can be modified in order to alter the angle at which the waterline approaches its ending.

The curve can be faired using normal fairing procedures. However, when the curve is accepted, it is altered to ensure that each point is on the end surface.

Important: The user should not fair the curve by using options on the Curve page of the Edit dialog (moving vertices, auto fairing, etc) as the curve is refitted to the points when it is accepted.

The method by which tangent curve points are moved onto the End Surface is dependent on the current view:

  • Section View: The Yand Z coordinate of each point is preserved. The X value is changed so that the point is on the End Surface.

  • Waterline: The Z coordinate of each point is preserved. The X and Y coordinate is modified such that the distance the point is moved is minimized.

  • Buttock View: The X and Z coordinate of each point is preserved. The Y value is changed so that the point is on the End Surface.

Important: It is important to note that an existing tangent curve will be used when updating or fitting waterlines. If the user requires the system to estimate the tangent point on the waterline ending, the tangent curve should be deleted before updating the waterlines.
