Figure 4:2 Envelope Definition dialog
This dialog is used to edit an envelope’s topological definition.
An envelope’s definition consists of the Barehull as a minimum, but can additionally include a Main Deck and a list of Appendages.
The envelope’s geometry results from the interaction of this definition. The Main Deck being subtracted from the Barehull followed by the appendages being added or subtracted (depending if they are set as Positive or Negative respectively) in the order listed.
The Envelope drop down list is used to select the envelope to be modified.
Barehull panel
The barehull can be changed by one of 3 methods:
-
Clicking the Get button and interactively selecting the surface in a view.
-
Dragging the required surface from the tree view and dropping it on the Get button.
-
Selecting the appropriate surface from the drop down list.
Main Deck panel
The main deck can either be a deck definition or a more general surface; the required type
being selected via the options Deck or Surface respectively.
The main deck can be changed by one of 3 methods:
-
Clicking the Get button and interactively selecting the object in a view.
-
Dragging the required object from the tree view and dropping it on the Get button.
-
Selecting the appropriate object from the drop down list.
The Clear button resets the main deck as -- none --.
Appendages panel
A list is used to hold the appendages in the order in which they are to be combined in the envelope.
To populate the list (or add additional items) either, (a) select Get (from the pop-up menu) to interactively pick the required objects via the cursor in any of the views (use the space bar to end the selection process), or (b) drag the items from a tree view and drop them into the list.
A pop-up menu is available in the list with the following options:
-
Edit... - opens the Primitive Definition dialogue (see Surface / Screen Based Reference Guide / Primitive Definition) if this is appropriate for the selected item.
-
Get - used as described above to populate the list.
-
Delete - used to remove the currently selected appendage from the list.
-
Clear - used to clear the list.
-
Flash - used to highlight the selected appendage in a graphics view.
-
Set Positive - used to change the type of the currently selected appendage to a positive. The Positive option in the Type panel can alternatively be selected.
-
Set Negative - used to change the type of the currently selected appendage to a negative. The Negative option in the Type panel can alternatively be selected.
-
Promote - used to promote the selected appendage, moving it up one place the list.
-
Demote - used to demote the selected appendage, moving it down one place the list.
-
Release appendages to design - used to determine if surfaces used as appendages should be released as individual surfaces or not. This will make a difference of the barehull surface released, if appendages are released the barehull will be the same as the original barehull surface. If appendages are not released the barehull will be modified to reflect the applied appendages.
Clicking Modify effects the change to the envelope.
