Manoeuvring Data - General

This property page is used to set up general information, applicable to all of the manoeuvring calculations, such as title, ship type and loading information.
Title
The title of the Hydrostatics Node may be changed via this property page.
Ship Type
The ship type identifier is required for manoeuvring calculations. Depending on the vessel type chosen, then different theories are used in the predictions. In addition it will be noticed that:
-
Shallow water is only available for Merchant vessels (see Manoeuvring Data - Water Conditions / Speed).
-
The maximum speed is dependent on the vessel type (see Manoeuvring Data - Water Conditions / Speed).
-
Different Hydrodynamic coefficients are required for each vessel type (see Manoeuvring Data - Hydrodynamic Derivatives).
-
The rudder type (defined on the Appendages - Rudders page) is only applicable to Naval vessels.
Loading Condition
The following is a brief description of each item in the grid control:
|
Condition |
By default, a User Defined condition is created, that is, it is independent of the Loading Conditions previously set up in Hydrostatics. However, each loading condition is included in the drop-down list, allowing you to easily perform manoeuvring calculations on predefined loading conditions. Note: |
|
Automatic Update |
Checking this button will automatically update certain fields by calculating the properties from the hull definition. The following values are calculated:
This item is only available for a User Defined condition, and if it is checked, and the User changes either the Draft Aft of Draft Fwd, then values are again automatically updated on the fly. Note: |
|
Name |
Condition Name |
|
Draft Aft |
The draught at the aft perpendicular. Note: |
|
Draft Fwd |
The draught at the forward perpendicular. Note: |
|
Mean Draft |
The draught at midships. Not editable. |
|
Trim |
Trim by the bow (Tf-Ta). Not editable. |
|
Include Bulb |
The manoeuvring calculations use either a modified Holtrop & Mennen or Series60 formulation for calculating the vessel resistance. They make certain assumptions about the size of a bulb, therefore you are only requested to state whether or not a bulb exists. Check this box if a bulb does exist. |

CB |
Block coefficient = |
|
CM |
Midship area coefficient. |
|
GM |
Fluid Metacentric height. |
|
LCG |
Longitudinal center of gravity from the Aft Perpendicular. |
|
VCG |
Vertical center of gravity (from the keel). |
|
Rudder to load waterline |
Distance of the rudder to the load waterline. |
