Naming Conventions

It is important that certain items in the Catalog database are named as they are referenced from other databases as well as internally. It would be impracticable to allow system-generated database reference numbers to be referenced as this would lead to meaningless output from reports and isometrics.

On Example Connection Type Codes, the Design, Specification and Catalog databases image shows the relationship between the Design, Specification, and Catalog databases. Consistency when naming items is important, making cross-database connections as easily identifiable as possible.

In Isodraft, bolt lengths for Piping Components are derived by referring to the SBOL name. Item detail is picked up from the RTEX attribute of the DTEX and the material is picked up from the XTEX attribute of the MTEX.

Note that the item code name on an isometric is obtained from the second part of the SPREF attribute of a Component, that means, its name in the Specification. On Example Connection Type Codes, in the Design, Specification and Catalog databases image, the name would be output as FLANWN300100. See the Setting Up Isodraft for further details.
