2D Construction Dialog - Angle Tab

  • Last UpdatedSep 04, 2023
  • 2 minute read

Allows the user to generate a 2D curve associated with a given knuckle or tangent curve.

From the View panel select the view of the orthogonal curve line set for which the angle is required (either Section, Waterline or Buttock). Next from the Parent Curve panel, select the type of curve for which the angle curve is required, either Tangent or Knuckle. If Knuckle is selected then choose whether to generate a Lower or Upper angle curve. From the list select the name of the curve that the angle will be associated with. Finally, select the method of creating the angle curve. This can be one of:

Automatic

The angle curve is created by intersecting the specified Knuckle or Tangent with each curve in the line set and calculating the slope of the curve at each intersection point.

Manual

The angle curve is created from a set of points (distance, angle, type) entered into the grid. Points can be copied, pasted, inserted and deleted by clicking the Right Mouse button over a grid cell.

File

The angle curve is created from a set of points (distance, angle, type) given in a file.

No name needs to be entered for an Angle curve as the system constructs the name by prefixing the name of the generating 3D curve with two letters as follows:

  • For Tangent curves the first letter of the prefix is "T"

  • For Knuckle lower angle curves the first letter of the prefix is "L"

  • For Knuckle upper angle curves the first letter of the prefix is "U"

The second letter of the prefix is either X, Y, or Z depending on whether the angle curve controls sections, buttocks or waterlines respectively.

The Angle curve produced can be faired in the usual manner and then stored.
