Some patches have an irregular shape

There are various reasons why individual patches have an irregular shape. Common causes are as follows:

• Sparse, poorly distributed or unfair data curves (if data points are being used).

• Wrong smoothing function or smoothing function parameters.

• Poorly selected patch boundary curves.

• Unfair or imprecise patch boundary curves.

• Poor location of the degenerate edge of a three-sided patch.
