Hull and Outfitting

Purpose of AVEVA Initial Design Surface

The Surface module enables Ship Designers and Loftsmen to precisely model hull form appendages, submarine hulls, semi-submersibles, special internal arrangements and other complex multi-surface geometries not adequately defined by simply using points or curves.

In the case of conventional hull forms, a preliminary surface definition is normally generated outside Surface using the Lines (using points and curves) module. With submarines or semi-submersibles however, the entire definition can be undertaken in Surface.

The Surface module contains a wide range of advanced surface geometry modelling functions. These functions include the generation of geometric primitives (for example, plane, cylinder, cone, rectangle, swept curve, ), the precise intersection of multiple surfaces as well as clipping, filleting and blending.

In order to assess the adequacy of the model being defined, Surface contains numerous visualization functions, such as layering, colour rendering, surface curvature rendering, fairness parameter checking and orthogonal curve construction to name but a few.
