The aim of this chapter is to explain the file structure used in the AVEVA Initial Design suite. AVEVA Initial Design Surface stores all its information for the definition of the hullform in a Surface design (a datastore with the standard filename extension of .dm). This is known as the DM file. Various optional designs or data files can be used for the basis of the initial hullform definition.
