Hull and Outfitting

Launching Output

  • Last UpdatedMay 24, 2023
  • 2 minute read

Launching output includes the normal curves of Buoyancy and Weight moments about the way ends and fore poppet plotted against travel. The stern lift point is marked on the diagram.

In the tabular output the column headings have had to be truncated to save space. The full description is given in the following table:

Column Heading

Description

St

Launching stage indicator:

0

=

ship completely out of the water

1

=

ship resting on ways, but stern is becoming immersed

2

=

the stern has lifted

3

=

the ship is floating freely

4

=

drop off point

Travel

Distance moved from starting position.

Draft aft at marks

Draft measured at the aft draft marks.

Draft fwd at marks

Draft measured at the forward draft marks.

Buoyancy

Buoyancy of immersed volume of hull.

Buoy Mom way ends

Moment of buoyancy about the way ends.

KMT

Metacentric height measured from the base line.

Buoy Mom for pop

Moment of buoyancy about the fore poppet.

Wt. Mom way ends

Moment of weight about the way ends.

Wt. Mom way fore pop

Moment of weight about the fore poppet.

Pressure way ends

Pressure on the ways in way of the way ends.

Pressure fore pop

Pressure on the ways in way of the fore poppet.

Force down ways

Force acting down the ways that is causing the ship to move.

Load wt-buoy

Net weight = weight - buoyancy

Distributed length

Active length of sliding way = fore poppet position - way end position.

Cr.of length fwd. amids

Centre of distributed length forward of amidships, that means,

Lpp/2 from AP

Centroid fwd. cr.

Centre of gravity of net weight forward of the centre of the distributed length.
