Merging the Clines

After modifying one or both of the projections, the system will merge the two Clines to create a new 3D curve. Rather than replacing the old Pline, a good practice to follow is to create a new curve using the old name with the letter M appended to indicate that it is the result of merging. This allows the user to return to the original 3D curves if the results of fairing are not suitable.

When merging the Clines, the master curve should normally be the view that was faired. If any problems occur merging the Clines then the user should try swapping the master and slave curves. If problems still occur the user should check that the extreme values of the Clines are the same, this is done by listing the curve coefficients with the DATA CURVE command.

After merging the new curve can be projected again and the other view checked for fairness, for example, if the curve was first projected into section and waterline views, with the waterline view faired, then the curve can then be projected into section and buttock views and the buttock view checked. If further fairing is done at this stage, the Clines should then be merged again.
