The Ceiling Grid is a rectilinear grid used to aid in the positioning of ceiling components and supporting structure.

Ceiling Grid tasks can be accessed from the Main Detailing Tasks window.

  1. Clicking Detailing on the Room Design toolbar displays the Main Detailing Tasks window.

Refer to Room Designer Detailing for further information.

  2. Select Ceiling grids to display the Main Ceiling Grid Tasks window.

The Main Ceiling Grid Tasks window allows the user to access Modify, Copy and Delete tasks for existing Ceiling Grids or access the Create task to create a new Grid or Lattice Profile.

    Select Grid

Allows the user to select a Grid from a list of existing Grids.

    Create

    Ceiling Grid

Displays the Create Ceiling Grid window.

    Lattice Profile

Displays the Create Lattice Profile window.

    Modify

These options only become active once a Ceiling has been selected from the Select Grid list.

    Grid Definition

Displays the Modify Ceiling Grid Definition window.

    Grid Geometry

Displays the Modify Ceiling Grid Geometry window.

    Grid Layout

Displays the Modify Ceiling Grid Layout window.

    Grid Detail

Displays the Ceiling Grid Detail window.

    Lattice Profile

    Displays the Modify Profile window.

    Copy

    Copy Profile

Displays the Copy Lattice Profile window.

    Delete

    Delete Ceiling Grid

Displays a Confirm message box. Selecting the YES option deletes the Ceiling Grid from the database.

    Delete Ceiling Lattice

Displays a Confirm message box. Selecting the YES option deletes the Ceiling Lattice from the database.

    Delete Ceiling Tiles

Displays a Confirm message box. Selecting the YES option deletes the Ceiling Grid from the database.

  3. Selecting Create > Ceiling grids on the Main Ceiling Grid Tasks window displays the Create Ceiling Grid window.

The Create Ceiling Grid window allows the user to set the general attributes, location, design criteria and geometry of the Ceiling Grid.

Basic Attributes

  • Set the Name, Description, Function and Number of the new Ceiling Grid as appropriate.

Location

The numeric input allows the user to manipulate the orientation of the new Ceiling Grid.

Angle from Y axis

Set using the spin box.

Angle from horizontal

Set using the spin box.

Height from ceiling

Enter a negative or positive height from the owning Ceiling element.

Offset from Ceiling

Allows the user to graphically pick the position of the origin of the new Ceiling Grid.

        X

Populated on picking a position or enter a value for X.

        Y

Populated on picking a position or enter a value for Y.

Design Criteria

In this panel the user is able to enter a default tile thickness, choose whether or not to use knuckled ceiling tiles, and set the colour schema and fire rating for the Ceiling.

Geometry

Using owning ELEMENT geometry

Select the checkbox to inherit the Owner’s geometry.

Define grid geometry

Displays the Define Ceiling Grid Boundary window allowing the user to define the grid geometry manually.

Create Grid

Adds a new Ceiling Grid (CLNPNG) element in the database hierarchy and displays the Modify Ceiling Grid Definition window.

Back to main Grid tasks

Displays the Main Ceiling Grid Tasks window.

Return to main tasks

Displays the Main Detailing Tasks window.

Define Ceiling Grid Boundary

  • Selecting Define grid geometry on the Create Ceiling Grid window displays the Define Ceiling Grid Boundary window.

The Define Ceiling Grid Boundary window allows the user to select a shape and set the dimensions and origin point of the Ceiling Grid.

Shapes

Select a Ceiling Grid shape from the drop-down list.

Dimensions

Enter the required dimensions for the selected Ceiling Grid shape.

Origin

Origin point

Select an origin point from the spin box.

Derive Methods

Pick Corner Points

Allows the user to graphically pick the corner points.

Define Ceiling Boundary

Applies the Ceiling Grid boundary definition.

Return

Returns the user to the Create Ceiling Grid window.
