Hull and Outfitting

The Geometry Modeller

AVEVA Initial Design contains three separate but integrated systems for geometry modelling

  • Lines

  • Surface

  • Compartment

The Lines module is designed specifically for the refinement and fairing of a hullform. It can be used for fairing directly from available offset data, for example when using data from, or derived from, an existing vessel.

Surface is a 3D solid modeller that enables you to precisely model hullform appendages, special internal arrangements and other complex multi-surface geometries. A preliminary surface definition is normally generated using the Lines modules and then imported into Surface for further work. However, for some more simple mathematically defined geometric shapes of prismatic form for example, parts of submarines and semi-submersibles, the full definition can be undertaken within Surface.

Compartment is an extension of the Surface module enabling you to quickly and precisely model the major internal surface definitions of any hull arrangement and to establish the full definitions of individual compartments. The internal surfaces produced by Compartment provide the full topology definition and connection relationships, with bulkheads and decks of flat or complex shape, and the automatic calculation of any intersections with the bounding parent hullform. Although Compartment uses a NURBS model, it outputs a faceted definition for use in hydrostatic and hydrodynamic analyzes.
