The active curves cannot be used to define a topologically feasible network of patch boundaries. This is usually because there are one or more places where the user expects active curves to intersect each other, but they do not. Where these intersections are missing, the segments of the curves cross over one another, creating a network that patches cannot be applied to. This applies to the whole network, even if just one intersection is missed.
