Calc uses categories to group compartments according to their operational function. These are used in the Compartment Loading dialog as a method of filtering the compartments according to their function and also as a method of grouping compartments in loading calculation and deterministic stability reports.

For each category, an ID (limited to 3 characters) and a Name (limited to 40 characters) are required. you must provide an ID for each compartment, however he can omit the compartment name if he wishes, (although not doing so will make the subsequent report difficult to read).

There is also a column for default cargo type, and also default damage permeability. The default cargo type can be used to attach a default cargo type to a compartment when it is assigned to that particular category. The default damage permeability works in the same way. The default cargo type drop down box is populated from the Content Types tab sheet.
