The Hole Management System is responsible for controlling and reporting all data associated with a ‘managed’ hole. It provides a common user interface and application for the following disciplines:
-
Equipment
-
Piping
-
HVAC
-
Cable
-
Outfit Steel
-
Room Design
The Hole Management System is wholly responsible for:
-
Managing the communication of hole data between disciplines
-
Data consistency checking on request providing relevant user feedback
-
Allowing discipline communication of data for managed holes
-
Generation of reports on managed holes.
Terminology used by the Hole Management System:
|
Managed Hole |
The elements and data being managed by the Hole Management system. |
|
Virtual Hole |
The modelled representation of the required hole shape. |
|
Real Hole |
The model geometry of the hole. |
The following diagram shows an overview of the Hole Management workflow:

The Hole Management System is accessed by selecting Utilities > Hole Management and View > Hole Management in the Hull Design module from the main menu to display the Hole Management window.

The Hole Association Filter allows the user to search for Managed Holes and display the search results in the Hole Associations list. The filter criteria specify which Managed Holes will be selected and displayed in the list. Once in the Hole Associations list these holes can be inspected and modified.
|
Current Element(s): |
Displays any holes associated with the currently selected element only. |
|
List of Elements: |
Enables the Elements to Manage list box at the bottom right of the window. |
|

|
All managed holes: |
Applies filtering to all managed holes in the project. |
|
Discipline: |
The user can select All the holes in the disciplines or specify a single discipline using the drop-down menu. |
|
Status: |
The user can select All the Status options or specify a single Status option using the drop-down menu. |
|
Claimed: |
The user can select All the Claimed options or specify a single Claimed option using the drop-down menu. |
|
Valid: |
Select only holes that passed/failed the validation tests. |
|
Note: |
|
|
Outfitting Panels |
Include all holes penetrating outfitting steelwork and room structures. |
|
Hull Plates |
Include all holes penetrating hull plates. |
|
Invalid: |
Include any hole associations that have any bad references or invalid data. |
|
Apply Filter |
refreshes the Hole Associations list according to the element and filtering options selected. |
Click the Show Tags checkbox to display labels in the 3D View around all the holes selected in the Hole Associations list.

To make it easier to see the penetrated items, click the Translucent Penetrated checkbox.

Clicking Manage Selected Holes displays the Hole Management window.

The Hole Management window consists of:
-
A list of managed holes
-
Data about the currently selected hole
-
Validation Results of the currently selected hole
-
History of the currently selected hole
-
A comment on the current hole
-
Originator and Reviewer Tasks
-
A Return to Hole Associations link
Click the Show Tags checkbox to display labels in the 3D View around the selected holes.
|
List of holes |
Lists the managed holes of the selected hole associations. |

Right clicking on a managed hole in the list displays a popup menu which allows the user to:
-
Navigate to the primary element (the penetrating item) in the hierarchy
-
Add the hole and associated items to the 3D view
-
Remove the hole and associated items from the 3D view
-
Centre the 3D view on the selected hole and zoom in to the hole
-
Save/Unclaim performs a Savework and releases database claims on the selected hole data allowing other users to modify the same hole data immediately.
-
Refresh List updates the list of holes according to the hole selection criteria.
-
Export the grid data to Excel
-
Open the Print Preview window
Selected hole data
Lists more information about the hole currently selected in the List of holes.

A right click popup menu on the hole data allows the user to:
-
Navigate to the primary element (the penetrating item) in the hierarchy
-
Add the hole and associated items to the 3D view
-
Remove the hole and associated items from the 3D view
-
Export the grid data to Excel
-
Open the Print Preview window.
Hole validation results
Displays details of associativity checks

Each hole in the List of holes includes the results of the associativity check as either TRUE or FALSE in the VALID column. Further details of these associativity checks are available by displaying the Hole validation results fold up panel, which shows the Test carried out and the Result either PASS or FAIL.
A right click popup menu provides the facility to display more detailed information about validation failures, select Display Results.
The Information Message Panel window is populated with the detailed information about the validation failures.

A right click popup menu provides facilities for exporting to Excel or printing the displayed data.
|
Hole History |
Displays the history of the currently selected hole. |

Each hole in the List of holes displays the current status value on the Hole Management window but a history of changes to the status value during the lifetime of the hole data is also stored for reference. The full status history for each hole is displayed on the Hole History fold up panel.
A right click menu provides facilities for exporting to Excel or printing the displayed data.
