NEW DRAWING

Purpose:

To create a new drawing.

Instructions:

  1. In the File menu, click New Drawing.

If a drawing already is current, you will be prompted to save this drawing before the new one is created.

  2. In the new drawing dialog you can select the name of the type of the new drawing. By default the system will suggest an "UNTITLED" name, UNTITLED1 for instance (if a drawing with this name already exists it will suggest UNTITLED2 instead. If UNTITLED2 already exists it will suggest UNTITLED3 etc). If you don't do any changes in this field the name is regarded as ‘system defined’ otherwise it is ‘user defined’. This condition will affect the behavior of the Save Drawing function, please see below.

  3. In the Registry field you can (optionally) define which registry the drawing should be placed in by selecting it in Draft Explorer and clicking CE. If the field is left blank, the drawing will be placed automatically, that means, according to project setup that defines the drawing location based on the drawing type. If the environment variable SBD_OWNING_REGI is set to MANUAL, then this option is allowed, if set to AUTO, the option will be greyed out.

  4. In the Backing Sheet field you can (optionally) define the name of a backing sheet to be added to the new drawing. You can key in the name or click the Browse button which will allow you to search/browse for a proper backing sheet.

Options:

If the variable DWG_NAME_UPPERCASE is set to Yes it is not possible to use lowercase characters in the Drawing Name field.

With the variable DWG_NAME_MAX_LEN you can control the maximum number of characters that can be given for the new drawing name.

Result:

A new drawing with the selected name and type is created and made current.
