The Calc Tree

Most operations in Calc are performed on the currently selected node in the tree view (left-hand pane). There are four types of node:

  1. Root node

  2. The parent of all other nodes.

  3. Section node

  4. Contains a group of related calculations.

  5. Calculation node

  6. Represents an individual calculation, such as hydrostatics.

  7. Report node

  8. Individual reports for a particular calculation. These may contain text and/or graphics.

Report nodes can only belong to Calculation nodes; Calculation to Section nodes; and Section Nodes to the Root node.

The pop-up Menu

The following operations can be invoked from the main menu, the toolbar, or from the pop-up menu (pictured, right), which appears when the right hand mouse button is clicked when a tree node is selected.

  • Cut a node, with the intention of moving it somewhere else.

  • Copy a node with the intention of copying it to another location.

  • Paste a node, performed after either Cut or Copy has been selected.

  • New Node. A dialog will appear asking which type of node you wish to create.

  • Edit. A dialog relating to that calculation will appear, where you can edit setup data.

  • Calculate. This instructs Calc to calculate the selected node, and any of its children, if any have not been calculated already.

  • Recalculate. This instructs Calc to recalculate the selected node, and any of its children, regardless of whether they have previously been calculated. Thus if changes are made to global options, such as balancing tolerances, stability criteria, , then calculations can be rerun without having to edit them first.

  • Stop Calculation allows you to stop a calculation on the specific node.

  • Set Page No. allows you to select the starting page number for this section of the report.

  • Lock allows you to Lock a node (which also locks any child nodes). This is reflected in the summary for that node, which reports which user locked it, and the date it was locked. During the time that a node is locked it cannot be recalculated, nor edited.

  • Unlock is used for unlocking a previously locked node. It will also unlock any children that were previously locked.

  • Delete Node. The node, and all its 'children' will be deleted (a confirmation is required beforehand).

  • Print calls the default Printer dialog for printing the selected node.

  • Print Preview allows you to see a Preview of the selected node prior to printing.

  • Toggle Printing allows you to flag nodes for selective printing. Selecting the option will cause the printing state of the selected branch of the tree, to be toggled, that means, if print was enabled it will be disabled and visa-versa. The colours of the tree icon, will be greyed out, if printing is disabled.

  • Output. There are 3 additional file outputs available for calculations in Calc:

  1. HTML - direct output of HTML. HTML files can be imported to programs such as MS Word for editing and re-formatting.

  2. LaTeX - which allows subsequent conversion of the reports to PDF.

  3. XML - Reports as XML (Extensible Markup Language) files. Not 100% initialized at this time.

  4. LS - longitudinal strength data for use in hydrodynamic calculations.

  5. DXF - output to 2D DXF of any drawings including, Tankplans, Loading Diagrams, graphs,

    Note:
Report nodes cannot have child nodes, thus the Create command does not apply. Also reports can only belong to the calculation that produced them.
