Description of Input

Data is input into the system using the Dynamic Positioning property pages. However, if you have data files produced for use with DPDAS, then these may be imported and a new Dynamic Positioning node created.

The main particulars are taken from the Ship Data node but all other data has default values. This module is applicable to semi-submersibles as well as normal vessel types. Default environmental coefficients are supplied for Supply, Drill or Tanker vessels, although User supplied values may, of course, be used if available. However, for semi-submersibles you MUST supply their own environmental coefficients. These may be input directly using the grid controls or may be imported from a text file, the formats of which are given in Dynamic Positioning Module.

Default values are supplied for the following items

  • Environmental coefficients

  • Rudder characteristics

  • Rudder lift-drag data

  • Vessel speed

  • External forces

  • Wind speed-wave height relationship

  • Thrust-power relationship

  • Forward speed effect on thrusters
