Manoeuvring Calculations

Manoeuvring calculations are signified by the icon on the application tree.

You should decide which vessel type best fits this design by choosing one of the following:

  • Merchant vessel

  • Naval vessel

This determines which theory and hydrodynamic derivatives are used within the manoeuvring calculations (see Manoeuvring Module).

The loading condition should then be selected from the list of previously defined conditions, or by specifying the draughts at the AP and FP to produce a new loading condition.

The water conditions and approach speed need to be selected together with default or User specific hydrodynamic derivatives.

Propeller information also needs to be defined. If powering calculations were previously performed for this loading condition, then you may select either his own propeller, or values determined in the powering calculations.

Also, the vessel's resistance, wake and thrust deduction are taken from those calculated within the powering calculations. If however, powering was not undertaken, then default calculations are performed.

The four manoeuvres performed by Hydro are then all calculated together, with results (both tabular and graphical) being displayed under separate tree nodes.

for further information about each input dialog and menu command, refer to the screen based reference guide (see Edit Menu - Manoeuvring Calculations Related Options). The technical reference (see Manoeuvring Module) describes the methods incorporated in the Manoeuvring module.
