SLICE

Purpose:

This function is used to present a 'sliced', or 'unsliced', version of a user-indicated view.

Instructions:

  1. In the Tools menu, click Model view, then Slice.

  2. First, the view to slice is indicated by user. The system will then present the current slice information (if any) in this view and also highlight it in all other views in the drawing. The slice limits are defined by two cutting planes parallel to the view. The cutting planes, in turn, are defined by two positions in another (perpendicular) view.

  3. After the view selection, the system prompts for two positions in another (perpendicular) view defining the slice limit. To unslice the model view, click Operation Complete when the system asks for a point in the first slicing plane.

Slicing a Hull Symbolic View (HSV) is defined as selecting new depths of the view. In addition to presenting the current slice information as above, here as the current depth before and behind the HSV, the HSV view plane is also presented. The two positions prompted by the system have to be selected one on each side of the HSV plane. Once the new cutting planes have been defined, the HSV will be recreated and the depths before and behind the view are updated.

Note: t is not possible to unslice an HSV, the view depth can only be changed by selecting new depths.

  4. Here is a restriction regarding outfitting models: the slice has no effect when the view type is ‘wireline’. Please select another view type. You can change the view type in the Marine Drawing Explorer: select the view in the tree control, right click and select Properties.

Options:

None.

Result:

The indicated model views are sliced.
