The AVEVA Initial Design suite uses common files for modelling the hull geometry and it is useful to describe the inter-relations between the various component software modules. The overall application comprises three basic functional elements, namely; a geometric modelling facility, a set of hydrostatics performance calculation routines, and a hydrodynamic analysis module. The architecture of the overall system is shown in schematic form in .

Relationship of Calc to other AVEVA Marine Software Modules.

The starting point in the overall design process is the definition of the hullform, using the appropriate alternative geometry modelling components of the system.

Again it is important to note that geometry cannot be changed within Calc. Thus if the calculations that are made within Calc indicate, for example, a design deficiency then you would need to return to the appropriate geometry modeller in order to make any changes to either the hull form or the compartmentation. However you can change the names of any of the compartments if necessary or he wishes, typically according to the target report requirements.
