  • 5 minute read

FILE \ NEW...

Enables the User to create a new design.

FILE \ OPEN...

Brings up the Open Design dialog to specify the name of the existing design (within the current project) to open.

FILE \ CLOSE

Closes the current project.

FILE \ SAVE

Saves the active project using the it’s current filename.

FILE \ SAVE STATE...

Brings up a State Description dialog which allows the user to describe the reason for saving, or the processes that have formerly been made. The Design is then saved in the normal way, but a backup is also made, allowing the User to restore the design to this, or any other state, at any time in the future.

FILE \ SAVE AS...

Brings up a file handling dialog to specify the location and name of the file to save the currently active project.

FILE \ USE

This gives the following options:

OFFSET DATA...

Displays the Use Design dialog. This allows the User to select offset data and generate a hullform from the point representation (as defined in Britfair format). The surface may be fitted to the offset data in one of two ways. Firstly, the Sparse method may be chosen, in which case various options are available, including reflecting the body. Alternatively, the body may be generated using the Skin method.

for further information see Use Offset Design Dialog.

HULL FORM...

Displays the Use Design dialog. This allows the User to select a Hull Form produced by Lines. Once selected, the User is given the option of reflecting and covering the generated hullform. The general Particulars, if different, may also be updated.

for further information see Hull Form Options Dialog.

DESIGN

This updates the design (internal surfaces - transverses, longitudinals and decks) from the database (PIM, Product Information Model).

FILE \ RELEASE

This gives the following options:

CALCULATION GEOMETRY

This releases the calculation geometry of those selected objects (including the envelope, internals, general particulars, containers and bay definitions). These are then used within Hydrostatics/Hydrodynamics.

DESIGN

This releases the design (surfaces, internals and compartments) for use within Structural Design and Hull.

for further information refer to User Guide Compartment / Using Initial Design Compartment / Release of Model Information.

Note:
In case of internal surfaces (transverses, longitudinals and decks) all objects are released to the database (PIM).

FILE \ IMPORT

This gives the following options:

INSERT DM FILE...

Brings up a file handling dialog to specify the location and name of another .dm (Surface) file to be inserted in the currently opened project.

ACIS SAT FILE

Has option GENERAL (plus TRANSVERSE BULKHEAD, LONGITUDINAL BULKHEAD and DECK; refer to the Compartment User’s Guide for further information).

Brings up a file handling dialog to specify the location and name of the ACIS SAT file to be opened.

LINES DATASTORE...

Brings up a file handling dialog to specify the location and name of the Lines file to be opened.

TOPOLOGY...

Refer to the Compartment User’s Guide for further information.

CMP FILE...

Refer to the Compartment User’s Guide for further information.

TRIBON COMPONENT...

Brings up a file handling dialog to specify the location and name of the ACIS SAT file to be opened. Used to import the 3D model definition of Components found on Tribon.com. A Group object is created for the geometry read in.

FILE \ EXPORT

This gives the following options:

LOFTBOOK...

Brings up the Loftbook dialog (see Loftbook Sheet), which allows the User to create a Loftbook containing intersection data of selected curves contained in the project.

PLOT...

Brings up the Plot dialog (see Plot Sheet), which allows the User to create a plot file (which can be read by the utility Plot, allowing annotation and generation of hpgl and DXF).

ACIS SAT FILE...

Brings up a file handling dialog to specify the location and name of the ACIS SAT file to be saved; (several SAT file versions are available). The SAT file can be used in the transfer of data to previous versions of Surface and other systems capable of reading a SAT file.

LINES DATASTORE...

Brings up a file handling dialog to specify the location and name of the Lines file to be saved.

TOPOLOGY FILE...

Refer to the Compartment User’s Guide for further information.

FILE \ PRINT...

This brings up the Print Control dialog from which the User can print the active report.

FILE \ PRINT PREVIEW

This allows the User to view the document as it will look once it has been printed.

FILE \ PRINT SETUP...

This is the Standard Printer Set-Up command.

FILE \ OUTPUT

This gives the following options:

HTML

This allows the User to output a HTML document for the currently selected sub-tree. (With or without headers and formatting.)

LATEX...

This allows the User to output a Latex PDF document for the currently selected sub-tree.

FILE \ LOAD LAST PROJECT

If selected, on exit from Surface the last project is remembered (along with the arrangement of graphics windows ) and will automatically be opened when Surface is next started.

FILE \ 1, 2, 3, 4

Allows the User to directly access any one of the 4 most recently closed designs within the current project without knowing the full file name and its storage location,

FILE \ EXIT

Closes down Surface prompts the User to save an unsaved project.
