Irregular Motion Contours

Polar diagrams may include up to three separate motions, each having their own criteria. However, it is also very useful to view a single response as a contour plot, with curves representing lines of constant value. As with the polar plots, these take the form of a circle, in which the radial axis denotes speed and the angle vector represents the wave direction. The irregular motions available for plotting are heave, surge, sway, pitch, roll and yaw, and total motions at particular locations specified in the input to the short term calculations.

The following plot shows a typical contour plot, displaying heave responses between 0.5 and 1.4 m amplitude.
