In order to specify the thruster locations, the Dynamic Positioning system uses a Cartesian coordinate system with its origin at midships and on the center-line of the vessel at the still waterline. The x-axis is positive forward, the y-axis positive to starboard and the z-axis positive upwards as shown in the following Vessel heading is be measured positive clockwise from the x-axis.
