Openings and Deck Edge Points Dialog - BM and SF Limits Tab.
The upper section of the dialog allows you to select an existing BM/SF set, to add new sets and to be able to delete existing sets, through the use of a drop-down list and the New and Delete buttons, respectively. Each set is to be given a unique name, to be chosen by you. For example there may be a In Harbour and Confined Waters set and a At Sea, Open Ocean set. When creating a new set, click New first and next edit the default name to that required and then enter the relevant data. (Typically such limits will relate to final hull girder scantlings and thus their generation is outside of the scope of Calc).
For each Position along the x axis (measured relative to the vessel's origin in meters or feet), the maximum permissible vertical still-water Shear Force (Max SF, units: tonnes or tons), maximum permissible vertical still-water sagging and hogging Bending Moments (Sag BM and Hog BM respectively, units: tonne-meters or ton-feet) are entered. These values are used in conjunction with the tabular and graphical representations that result from longitudinal strength calculations and enable you to assess if the calculated results are acceptable or otherwise. The Description entry field is to allow you to enter a personal comment.
Note:
A maximum of 51 discrete positions may be defined.
Clicking the IACS limits button will automatically set up the limits according to the IACS recommendations, but these may not be appropriate for the vessel in question and should be checked.
