Application Tree

The full range of the applications that are contained within Calc are shown in the Typical Application Tree image, presented in a tree form and with the branch from each node representing a particular area of capability. There are four types of nodes, namely root nodes, section nodes, calculation nodes and report nodes. Root nodes and section nodes lead to branches.

Application branches can be added, deleted or duplicated depending upon your requirements. The application-area scope of the tree is initially established by your selection that is made on the initiation of a new project, however this can be subsequently changed by adding or deleting nodes, If a node is deleted then all of its children are also deleted.

If you duplicate an application branch then, through subsequent naming activities, he can separately identify the individual purpose of each duplicated branch.

Typical Application Tree.

This tree is constantly displayed while Calc is open. The tree can be graphically expanded or collapsed, with relation to any node point, by cursor-selecting the symbol ‘+’ or ‘-’ at the node point. The ‘+’ symbol indicates that the node has been collapsed and the ‘-’ symbol that the node has been expanded.

The tree contains coloured icons, at node points, that represent application areas and, when fully graphically expanded, black and white icons are given at branch ends, and that represent the pages that will be created in the final report.

It is useful to regard the tree as a template for setting-out the outline, in the form of a list of contents, of the intended final report. In addition to the pre-programmed tabular and graphical output, the note facilities that can be added at any node point, enables you to add any additional text that he considers to be appropriate to making the report more explanatory and useful to the intended readers.

Cursor-selecting and right-hand button clicking on a coloured application icon opens a sub-menu, as described later, that allows you to enter into the usage of that capability. Cursor-selecting and left-hand button clicking on a black and white page icon allows you to view the contents on that page or set of pages. Double clicking a calculation node will open up the Editing dialog for that calculation.
