Project Upgrade for MDS Defaults

  • Last UpdatedJan 09, 2026
  • 1 minute read

This chapter provides guidance to the MDS administrator on how to upgrade an existing MDS11.6 project to MDS12 using the MDS12 Defaults Conversion Upgrade utility in the Multi Discipline Supports (MDS) application.

It is assumed that the MDS administrator has an expert understanding of the MDS application.

The MDS12 Defaults Conversion Upgrade utility only applies to six of the current MDS defaults files, that means:

  • DES-SUPP-DEFS

  • DES-SUPP-PARS

  • DES-SUPP-HANG

  • DES-SUPP-ALTD

  • DES-SUPP-ID

  • DES-SUPP-ICONS

The MDS12 Defaults Conversion Upgrade utility allows the MDS administrator to automatically convert the above six MDS default files, defined for the existing MDS11.6 project, into eight individual PARAGON CATALOGUE elements contained in a single nominated PARAGON database, that means:

  • CATA /MDS/OPTION/DEFAULTS

  • CATA /MDS/ANCILLARY/DEFAULTS

  • CATA /MDS/TRUNNION/DEFAULTS

  • CATA /MDS/STRUCTURE/DEFAULTS

  • CATA /MDS/HANGER/DEFAULTS

  • CATA /MDS/PRELIMINARY/DEFAULTS

  • CATA /MDS/ZONEID/DEFAULTS

  • CATA /MDS/ICON/DEFAULTS

Important: Any existing MDS ATTA components in the project's Design databases will NOT be modified. The MDS12 Defaults Conversion Upgrade utility will only create/modify elements contained within the eight PARAGON CATALOGUE elements converted from the six MDS default files.
